Meodifestivalen 2012: Introduction to Heat three!

melodifestivalen 2012 logga

Week 3 of Melodifestivalen and it’s yet another heat that looks immensely strong on paper. That didn’t work out too well for us last week where the results were concerned. But at least we walked away from it all with quite a lot of songs that we genuinely love. Hopefully the same will apply this week.

HERE though, before it all kicks off, we present to you our weekly introduction to the artists and songs that will compete in the contest this weekend.

We’ll be travelling to Leksand later this week in time for the Friday afternoon rehearsals, so check back here later that day for our full report on what the songs sound like and how they’re presented on stage.

And HARK – the Melodifestivalen 2012 CD is already available for pre-order through our online store. Featuring of course, all of the below songs you’ll be hearing this weekend;

………………………………………………………………………………………

Youngblood – ‘Youngblood’
(Fredrik Kempe, David Kreuger)

We really can’t see how this one could fail in ANY way. Five strapping young chaps (Simon (to the far left) is our favourite!) with a song penned by Fredrik Kempe. Like Ulrik Munther last week, we see this as another guaranteed finalist. And we don’t mind so much this time around, because we have high expectations for their song too.

Maria BenHajji – ‘I Mina Drömmar’
(Nanna Sveinsdóttir, Thomas Cars)

Being the winner of the Melodifestivalen web-joker contest, we’ve already heard this song and what it sounds like. It’s a schlager ballad. And it’s quite good. But nowhere near as good as ‘I Din Himmel’ which is of the same genre and only ended up finishing in 6th place last week. Knowing this, Maria will be forgiven for walking onto the Melodifestivalen stage like a calf on its way to the abbatoir. That excruciating entrance walk up the catwalk is gonna seem longer than ever. *cringe*!

Mattias Andréasson – ‘Förlåt Mig’
(Mattias Andréasson)

Danny Saucedo’s EMD bandmate Mattias has written and produced this all on his lonesome. It’s difficult to predict how it’s gonna go for him. On the one hand, the vote for pretty boys is being taken by Youngblood, and the vote for singer/songwriter chaps (if such a vote exists, probably on a smaller scale to the former) may be polarised by Andreas Johnson. But on the OTHER hand, Mattias has done well from Swedish televoters before – hello Let’s Dance. So this really does all depend on how amazing his song is or isn’t.

Love Generation – ‘Just A Little Bit’
(RedOne, John Mamann, Jean-Claude Sindres, Teddy Sky, Yohanne Simon, Bilal “The Chef” Hajji)

Our favourites! They’ve told us that this is typically Love Generation and typically RedOne, but with a slightler rockier edge to it. Sounds fierce! We’ve also been told by those who have heard the song that out of all RedOne productions, this sounds most like Porcelain Black’s ‘Naughty Naughty’, but is even catchier. This is all very promising and we’ll be surprised (and disappointed) if we don’t fall head over heels in love with this song.

Carolina Wallin Pérez – ‘Sanningen’
(Martin Bjelke, Michael Clauss, Carolina Wallin Pérez)

Most famous for a jazz cover of a Kent song – which we actually really enjoyed. We’ve heard that this quite pop too, more so than jazz. So we’re probably looking forward to this much more than you would think. But we really do have no idea what to expect. And it’s even harder to predict, results wise. Will she go the same way as Pernilla Andersson or Abalone Dots? Thorsten Flinck or The Moniker?….

Andreas Johnson – ‘Lovelight’
(Andreas Johnson, Peter Kvint)

Andreas returns to Melodifestivalen for the fifth time here. The three times he’s done it solo, he’s made the final. Oh Andreas……..We have no problem with you or quite a lot of your songs, but there really are SO many other artists in this heat that we would rather see progress to the final more so than you. You’ve HAD your time in that final! We may take that back if you deliver an amazing song though, so c’mon – bring the goods.

Molly Sandén – Why Am I Crying
(Aleena Gibson, Molly Sandén, Windy Wagner)

A newly and famously single Molly is all set to take to the stage with a break-up song. We’re sure it’s nothing more than a coincidence, but if an episode of Melodifestivalen was like an episode of Dynasty, then we would be in gay awe of a fabulous Molly going all Alexis Carrington on Eric Saade’s ass! Written by some of the same people behind her last single ‘Spread A Little Light’, we’re expecting to LOVE this.

Björn Ranelid feat. Sara Li – Mirakel
(Fredrik Andersson, Björn Ranelid)

No, we have no idea what the fuck to expect here either. What on earth IS this?!!! Sources tell us that it’s gonna be right up our street though. Christ!
