All For You: The Video!

by scandipop on August 27, 2010

Hark! It’s the brand new video from Ace of Base!

Jonas from the band promises a full colour version of the video soon. But for now, here’s ‘All For You’ in classy black and white. We like it. The girls look amazing and of course Ulf looks every inch the gorgeous rock star. And we like the romantic French vibe going on in the video too. Large beds, high ceilings, fancy cars, red wine, and lingerie.

Treble Base!

by scandipop on August 27, 2010

Three new Ace of Base songs have leaked. Just demos at this stage though, so not indicative of what these songs will sound like when they end up on the forthcoming album.

Still though, they’re a joy! All three sound like classic Ace of Base, and all are shaping up to be marvellous pieces of pop, especially when you imagine them with full production.

‘One Day’ is our favourite right now. All three are catchy, but this is unbelievably so! ‘Bla Bla Bla (On The Radio)’ has a more interesting chorus that we imagine is going to have the same lasting effect as some of those phenomenal choruses on the ‘Flowers’ album. And ‘Golden Ratio’ sounds quite similar to new single ‘All For You’ – obviously a good thing.

You can stream all three in their entirity below if you wish. However, please remember that they’re only in demo form, and so you may wish to wait until the fully finished version arrive – as otherwise, some of the magic may be taken away for you!

Ace of Base: ‘All For You’ – the remixes!

by scandipop on August 24, 2010

The remixes of one of the most anticipated singles this year have arrived. Last month, Ace of Base premiered their comeback single ‘All For You’, and have been servicing it to radio stations worldwide ever since in preperation for its commercial release next month.

First up we have the ‘Dance Extended Remix’. It’s got an 80′s-esque Stock, Aitken & Waterman vibe to it, although still manages to sound thoroughly modern with it. The best part is the middle eight, which is then followed by a shift in decade influences – a 90′s piano house bit. As remixes go, it’s not exactly poppers o’clock, or arms in the air. But it’s a charming enough remix anyway. And it’s always difficult to appreciate a remix when you love the original so much.

Next up is ‘The Sign Dub Mix’. Quite confusingly though, it’s not a remix of ‘The Sign’, and nor is it a dub! It’s a harder take on dance music than the previous mix, but keeps to the yesteryear influences. This time it’s 90′s commercial house music meets modern day electro house.

If you’re quick, you can listen to both below, but they may well get taken down soon from the original youtube source.

HOWEVER – the best remix hasn’t actually surfaced on youtube yet. It’s called the ‘Madhouse Monkeys Remix’ and is a pounding masterpiece of club music! Again, it borrows a PWL sound and marries it to a modern beat – turning it into something vaguely amyl worthy. And quite frankly, what more could one want from a remix?!

Face of Ace of Base

by scandipop on July 24, 2010

We don’t know why, but every new step in this Ace of Base comeback is getting us excited!

For example, a new promo pic. You wouldn’t think it warrants a brand new post here, dedicated entirely to it. But it’s just SO pretty!

Here it is!

The HQ radio rip of the new Ace of Base single, ’All For You’! *scream*

We love it already. There’s a lot of things we wanted from the Ace of Base comeback – and this sounds like one of them. Synth heavy, melody driven, pure pop. Our favourite parts;

The synth breakdown after the first chorus
The middle eight
The extra beats in the last chorus

All for who, dear? We can’t hear!

by scandipop on July 22, 2010

Here’s a VERY LOW quality recording of the new Ace of Base single in full. It sounds like it was recorded through someone’s mobile phone in the middle of a rain storm. BUT – you can make out the (very good) melodies of the verses, the (extended drama filled) middle eight, and a much better idea of the song ‘All For You’ than the 30 second clip we posted here last week.

And it shouldn’t be too long before a HQ radio rip surfaces.

Unhappy Nation…

by scandipop on July 17, 2010

Things have gotten a little heated online today in the whole Ace of Base vs Jenny Berggren drama. Both parties have taken to their twitter accounts in an attempt to clarify what’s going on behind the scenes. But unfortunately, both conflict each other, and leave fans none the wiser as to what’s really happening, or has happened.

Of course, what’s happening behind the scenes shouldn’t really be anyone’s concern but the members themselves. Really, we should be celebrating the fact that we’re getting the first musical output from both Ace of Base, and Jenny Berggren, in almost a decade. But it’s difficult to ignore the personal dispute they’re in, when it’s being played out so publicly. Jenny has been the main protagonist so far, but to be fair, she has said that she’s only doing it this way because twitter and facebook are her only voice – her only way of speaking to her fans. Ace of Base have kept a dignified silence about the matter up until today.

If you’re as yet unaware of what’s happening, here it is in a condensed nutshell – Ace of Base get two new girl members…..rumours start that Jenny left the band because record labels insisted on the recruitment of a new, younger singer……fans angry that Ulf and Jonas so happily and readily replacing her……..Jenny goes on twitter to announce that this new band is not ‘Ace of Base’ as that name belongs to the four original members, two of which haven’t been consulted…..Ace of Base continue to use the name regardless…..fans angry at them going against Jenny’s wishes…..

…..and then yesterday Ace of Base premiered their new single, ‘All For You’. And this prompted Jenny’s outburst on twitter this morning. Here it is;

Goodmorning. FYI I have not been contacted about AOB until some days ago and since I am still a member and important deals aorund the band (who doesn’t involve me) are not settled yet, I am confused. Twitter and Facebook has been my voice. My wish was to stay in the band to make music in the future. Someone told me fan…s think I quit and left the boys alone, but the story is not at all this. I love you.

To say that I didn’t agree to a fourth member is wrong. I even gave names if I would have gotten a green light of the things I needed. For instence some control over the issues regarding the band. Once I was told not to meet up with a manager that would work with us ‘because I didn’t have the full picture of what we ha…d been sold in as’. Who can work like that and have children? I need structure. All people do.

To which Ace of Base responded with;

Some ex band members have VERY wild fantasies. No more comments

And that’s that really. We really do hope that it doesn’t get any more nastier. Or at least any more public. Hopefully both sides will be able to settle the matter in private. And for now, we’re just looking forward to hearing both albums this autumn. But it would be a shame if this drama overshadowed both album releases. Then nobody wins.

It’s the BRAND NEW ACE.OF.BASE. SINGLE!!!

by scandipop on July 16, 2010

Today’s the day when their new single ‘All For You’ goes to Swedish radio. But they’ve kindly uploaded a clip to their official facebook page for fans to listen to.

But what does it sound like?!

‘All For You’ sounds like it’s going to be wonderful. It’s very upbeat, compared to what we were expecting. It’s classic Ace of Base, whilst not sounding anything like ‘The Sign’ or ‘All That She Wants’. More ‘Beautiful Life’ (although far more bang up to date of course) or something from the ‘Flowers’ album. And that’s all we, or any of their fans wanted really – classic Ace of Base.

Musically it’s very synth heavy, and there’s lots going on in it. The drama drums at the end of the chorus sound quite brilliant. The melody isn’t instant, but it does sound like it’s a haunter. And it’s got some repetition in the chorus too, which always makes any song better! ‘’oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh’’!

The new look Ace.Of.Base. – in full HQ!

by scandipop on July 15, 2010

Here’s the first HQ image of the new line up of Ace.Of.Base. (for that is how they/Jenny’s lawyers want it spelt now).And they’re looking pretty swanky we have to say. Very nice indeed.

First single ‘All For You’ goes to Swedish radio stations tomorrow, so we should hear it by the weekend hopefully. They also mentioned a new song ‘One Day’ too – which they say sounds a lot like ‘The Sign’. Yes please.
