Kick

A Kick in the nuts!

by scandipop on June 27, 2010

Here’s the new single and video from Swedish pop duo, Kick, ‘Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl’.

The song excites us because it’s another production from those Godfathers of great scandipop, Pitchline (see also their work with Velvet, and the most recent singles from Magnus Carlsson and Alice Svensson, amongst many others). We’re huge fans of these guys and it’s always a pleasure to hear a new track that they’ve put their name to. ‘Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl’ features their typical style of synths, but has been adapted to suit Kick’s somewhat rockier attitude.

And the video excites us because it’s two hot young Swedish girls cavorting around what looks like an industrial waste dump, wearing only black panties and short leather jackets (which they keep pulling apart at the chest at sporadic points throughout the vid). In another shot, they’re wearing full length black dresses and walking along the beach. And then later on in the vid, just in case the first half wasn’t trashy enough, they’re both in a swimming pool, both topless. One Kick is covering her modesty with her hand, the other Kick is covering hers with ACTUAL PEARL NECKLACES.

It’s the little things like this that make us unconditionally adore pop music that comes from Scandinavia. Incredible.

A Little Kick

by scandipop on February 6, 2010

More amazing pop music that sounds like dance music from Sweden; ‘Jag Tar Dig’, by female duo, Kick. Subtle verses paired with an intrusive chorus, it’s a collaberation of commercial pop and harder dance. It was written and produced by Pitchline, who usually work their magic on Velvet, and ‘Jag Tar Dig’ sounds exactly what you’d expect from a Velvet song, if she ever resolves to make her sound that little bit darker.
