Barbados: ‘Jag Klarar Mig’

Iconic Swedish dansband, Barbados, returned with a brand new album this month, ‘Efterlyst’. And with it has come a brand new single – the absolutely fantastic ‘Jag Klarar Mig’.

It’s the type of dansband music we love best – the schlager sort! ‘Jag Klarar Mig’ is a camp anthemic cross between Abba and Linda Bengtzing – words we would NEVER use lightly, as you can probably imagine! The band that brought us the now legendary ‘Kom Hem’, have managed to come out with something that aspires to be on that same level, and to our ears anyway, it doesn’t fall that short either.

It sounds like it was written for Melodifestivalen (and perhaps it may well have been!), and would have been a worthy finalist in any year we care to remember. The Abba piano hooks have been religiously drawn upon for inspiration, and most key elements of your standard schlager classic are present and correct in the song’s two minutes and fifty eight seconds. A rousing example of everything that can be great about dansband music.

This, is pure bliss;

    There are several great tracks that have already been released as singles before the album came out. TID ATT GÅ VIDARE, VINTERNATTEN and BARA FÖR EN DAG are all good in the dramatic schlager ballad vein.

    Yep, ‘Tid Att Gå Vidare’, ‘Bara För En Dag’, ‘Ett Mirakel Som Är Vårt’, ‘Som Jag Känner Nu’, ‘Ok, Nu Glömmer Jag Dig’, and this single are my current favourites from the album. A lot of the rest of the album is a bit too ‘doo-wop’ for me though.
