‘Twas Amanda Jenssen’s night over on Så Mycket Bättre at the weekend. With The Ark’s Ola Salo taking on ‘Dry My Soul’, Familjen turning in a Swedish language translation of ‘Do You Love Me’ (our favourite Amanda Jenssen song – which he pretty much destroyed), and Orup producing a Swedish version of Amanda’s biggest hit in recent years, ‘Illusionist’.
But what did Carola do?!
She went with ‘For The Sun’ from Amanda’s ‘Happyland’ album. And turned an up-tempo and jovial song into a dark n’ stark ballad. In truth, ‘For The Sun’ really isn’t anything that even remotely resembles a standout track from Amanda Jenssen’s catalogue. And Carola’s version doesn’t change that unfortunately. Still though, it’s a pretty engaging listen – thanks largely to the lady’s WOW vocal. And then there’s the strings. Oh those strings. She’s definitely done enough to it to ensure that it’s an improvement on the original.
