Linda Pritchard surprised us all earlier today when she took to her Facebook fan page and was all like “so yeah, tune into P4 Radio today between 11 and 12 when I’ll be guesting and playing some new material“. Erm…stop…rewind. It’s been an age since your last single Linda, couldn’t you have afforded the release of new material a little bit more of a ceremony than a nonchalant status update? We didn’t know she was even still making music.
Well she is. And thankfully, as today’s P4 Radio appearance proved, she’s still doing it very well, at that.
The new song (no word yet on if its a forthcoming single or not) is a ballad. An electro ballad. That turns into something a bit more up-tempo halfway through. But as such, maintains Linda Pritchard’s trademark ballad vox. They’re big. And they’re a little angry too. Particularly given the lyrical matter she’s been given to work with – “for the shit you put me through, here my last promise I’ll make for you, I’ll never be like you, I’ll never be like you, for the nights I’d wait for you, while you were out finding somebody new, I’ll never be like you, I’ll never be like you“. The song also contains an amazing middle eight section.
We’d love to say if there’s an album, EP, or even a double a-side from Linda coming out soon – but like we wrote above, we didn’t even know she was still making music until earlier this morning. Let’s hope there’s more where ‘Be Like You’ came from though, it’s bloody good.
