Ask Embla: ‘Father’s Eyes’ (acoustic version – new single)

AskEmblaAcoustic

After originally being a hit for them in Norway last summer, Ask Embla’s ‘Father’s Eyes’ has had an even bigger resurgence in popularity over the last couple of months. Thanks mainly to it being a phenomenal song of course, but also largely because of Ina Wroldsen’s acoustic performance of it on Norwegian TV show Senkveld back in May, to promote the release of the band’s debut album ‘Northern Light’.

You can watch that performance below, and see it for the stunner that it is. Particularly those moments from the 1:36 and 2:18 marks. Christ!

Since that performance, both the single and album have gone to Norwegian charts. And demand for an acoustic version of the song has soared. So much so that on June 25th they went into the studio to record one, and on July 5th they released it as a new single. Boom!

Listen to the 90 second preview of the studio recording that is streaming on iTunes across Scandinavia;

Fathers Eyes (Acoustic Version) - Single - Ask Embla

We’ve written a lot about Ask Embla in the past (have a read, while you’re at it), but we’ve shamefully yet to write anywhere, the cold hard fact that their album ‘Northern Light’ is without a doubt one of the best albums of the year so far. It’s brilliant. Track after track of sublime songwriting and amazing vocals – both of which touch the heart and soul. We’re not quite sure in which countries it has been released and in which formats, but if you can – buy it and listen to it. You won’t regret it. (We’re currently trying to get it ordered in to our store, so keep an eye on our Facebook or Twitter page for an update as to if and when it comes in. As it’s a Norwegian release, it’s harder for us to get hold of – as our deal is with a Swedish distributor. But we’re trying.)

And here’s an example of that sublime songwriting and those amazing vocals we mention above. The performance that re-started it all. The acoustic version of ‘Father’s Eyes’;
