Danny & Freja: ‘If Only You’. Saucedo’s first UK single!

Some big plans are afoot for one of Scandinavian pop music’s most celebrated boys – Danny Saucedo is coming to the UK!

Island Records have signed Danny and will be releasing his first ever UK single in the next few months. Rather than go with any of the cuts from his new Swedish album ‘In The Club’ though, they’ve instead gone back through his old catalogue and plucked one of his classic tunes, perhaps in the hope of scoring a more likely hit with it. They’ve chosen ‘If Only You’.

The song has of course already had a bit of a past. It was included on his first album ‘Heart Beats’ as a solo track. Then at the end of the campaign, it was re-recorded as a duet with Therese, which then went on to become a number 1 single in Sweden. The new version was then included as a bonus track on Danny’s second album, ‘Set Your Body Free’.

As you would expect, Island Records have now re-recorded the track again to bring it up to 2011’s sound. However, and this is somewhat surprising given her previous success in the UK, they’ve taken the decision to remove Therese from the song and replace her with a much lesser known female vocalist, Freja. This does seem quite odd to us, but then we imagine there were well thought out reasons behind the decision.

Revolving vocalists aside though, it’s already clear that Island are keen to give this a big push in the UK, as they’ve gone and commissioned four remixes for the single. As well as remixes from Club Junkies, Electric Allstars, and the always amazing 7th Heaven, they’ve also forked out for a mix by Manhattan Clique, who’ve recently done remixes for the likes of Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, The Saturdays, Chris Brown, Keri Hilson, Katy Perry, Lily Allen, La Roux, Mylene Farmer, Nelly Furtado, Moby, Goldfrapp, Alphabeat, Timbaland, and Example!

You can listen to a clip of the 7th Heaven remix here, and of the Club Junkies remix here.

We have no word yet on a release date, but we shall keep you posted as and when we receive more news of course!
