Petra Marklund has been Queen of clubs all around Europe this summer, and especially in the UK. In her artistic guise of September, she’s seen a song from her second album become huge in Great Britain (it’s sold almost 250,000 units in that one territory alone), while new songs from her third album are being greatly received in her native Sweden. But as things go from strength to strength in the UK (she’s been announced as a headliner for the second round of the massive Clubland arena tour), she’s finally receiving mainstream success in the US too. After having minor hits on the Billboard Dance charts (which don’t mean an awful lot anyway), her UK crossover hit ‘Cry For You’ has finally penetrated the Billboard Hot 100 chart and has remained there for six weeks now, climbing almost every week since. It now stands at number 76 and has sold 254,000 units to date. Something which is very rare for a European act, and especially a European dance act.
Back in the UK, her label Hard 2 Beat have yet to decide on a follow up single to ‘Cry For You’. ‘Satellites’ would be the obvious choice to most, but AATW own the UK rights to that as they licensed it for a Clubland compilation two years ago. It’s been revealed though that they will be using a brand new song as opposed to anything which has been released by September so far on any of her three albums. ‘Until I Die’ is the next single in the rest of Europe.
