Say what now? Today sees the release of Whitney Houston’s first ‘new’ music since her passing. In collaboration with Norwegian producer Kygo. This is ‘Higher Love’.
Hang on I recognise that track. You may well be familiar with the Steve Winwood original from 1986, particularly if, like us, you watched the iconic 80s film Big Business pretty much every week as a child.
So she recorded a cover before she passed? Nope – all the way back in the late 80s she recorded her own version of the song. It was released on the Japanese version of her ‘I’m Your Baby Tonight’ album, but has never been released elsewhere, including onto Spotify.
And Kygo just took it upon himself to remix it? According to Kygo, the Houston family approached him and asked him to work his magic on it.
And the result? A beautifully uplifting summer anthem that serves as a chance for us all to enjoy those iconic vocals once more.
More from Kygo? As if to hammer home the song’s title, Kygo will be giving the first ‘performance’ of the song at Pride Festival Utopia in New York City on June 30th. And we thank him for making that link.
