What’s this? THIS is what’s annually become our favourite week of Swedish Idol since the theme started three years back. The remaining contestants get paired with some of Sweden’s best pop songwriters, and given their own original composition to perform on that week’s show. Usually with some amazing results.
And what were this year’s lot like? Out of the four songs, we’d say three of them were keepers. Simon Zion’s ‘Losin It’ was the best of the bunch, and the most poptastic. Amanda Winberg’s moody ballad was another highlight, as was Martin Almberg’s radio friendly pop/folk banger. Incidentally, the worst of the lot resulted in its singer being sent packing.
Any from previous years we may have missed?Love Run Free‘ from last year was pretty brill, and its singer Lisa Ajax ended up going on to win. And in 2013 we saw the first glimmer of brilliance in Erik Rapp.
